Facts and History of Egypt

Emerging from the Nile Valley, around 3,100 BC, Egypt is possibly the world’s oldest civilization and vacation spot. The Greeks and Romans visited Egypt for fun and to visit the wonders of the Pyramids and monuments. Egypt now features scuba diving, luxury hotels and five star restaurants.

In 3200 B.C, a unified kingdom arose and fell to the Persians in 341 B.C. In the 7th century, the Arabs introduced Islam and the Arabic language and rules for the next six centuries. The completion of the Suez Canal made Egypt an important world transportation hub but it fell into heavy debt as well. The largest growing population in the Arab world, Egypt acquired full sovereignty after WWII.

Egypt has 2,450 km of coastline and dessert conditions. It also contains natural resources like petroleum, natural gas, phosphates, manganese, gypsum, talc, iron ore, lead and zinc. It is slightly larger in area than three times the size of Mexico. Arabic is the official language but English and French are widely understood by educated classes.

The Beaches in Egypt

The beaches in Egypt are warm watered and inexpensive. Egypt has as many as seven beach zones:

  1. Mediterranean beaches along mainline coast of Suez Canal
  2. Mediterranean beaches along the northern Sinai
  3. Sinai coast along the gulf or Aqaba
  4. Sinai coast along the Gulf of Suez
  5. Southern Sinai region opening to the Red Sea
  6. Mainland coast along the Gulf of Suez
  7. Mainland coast south along the Red Sea
